What makes this place extraordinary for birding and photography is its pristine nature.
More than half of Latvia is covered with forests, meadows, pastures, swamps, and wasteland. Forestsaccount for more than one-third of the total area, with deciduous species like birch and aspen as the most prevalent.
Everything here reminds of the past of this wild land: the big wooden farms, the dirt roads surrounded by forests only, the small villages lost in kilometres of wild lands. It seems that time never passed here.
