The reserve is named after the Scarlet macaw (Ara macao cyanoptera), in
Spanish “Guacamaya”. It is an endangered species and the reserve, “la estaciòn”,
has been working on its conservancy project for years. In fact, scientific
research is an important pillar of The Guacamayas Biological Station and the
primary reason for the Station’s existence. A large Biological Station like the
Guacamayas is of interest to many researchers working with wild fauna or
flora. Priorities for the station include research on climate change, the toxicity
of rivers (San Pedro, Sacluc and San Juan), and the growth rates of rainforest
trees. The station is located along the shore of the Rio San Pedro Martyr,
which is one of the tropical wetlands of the region. Although the designation
“Laguna del Tigre” is used to denote the location, the camp is actually nowhere
physically adjacent to this or any of the other beautiful lakes in the area.
The Las Guacamayas station is about halfway between Paso Caballos and the
protected area of El Peru, where arqueological research is being conducted.

Thanks to our boat we will sail from the Bay of Amatique to the southern atolls of Belize. You can enjoy several days’ excursions in order to discover the wildest part of the Caribbean Sea. We could stay in small but picturesque huts on the semi-uninhabited islets, which are visited only by a handful of people each year.
In such exclusive sites we could discover the authentic nature of the Caribbean: dolphins will accompany us while we sail the waves, colourful fish will surround you thanks to our snorkelling sessions in luxuriant coral reefs and during navigation we will be able to offer food to pelagic birds in migration. They are numerous during this season in the atolls that they use as a stopping point. The stars of these trips are undoubtedly the Frigate birds, Pelicans and Gannets, which can get very close, allowing you spectacular photos.

The particular geographical position of Guatemala makes it a must for the North-South migrations of the American birdlife. Our reserves, placed from the Caribbean Sea to the Andes, will allow to fully enjoy this phenomenal moment on a dedicated tour. We will move across these areas, also with excursions through the jungle, to be able to observe a wide number of species in a few days. We are talking about a journey not only for birdwatchers but also for photographers. In fact, migratory birds are very present in feeder of our hides, they find food and refuge during their journey and allow us to photograph them in the best conditions.

Every year populations of endangered sea turtles return to lay their eggs at the turtle hatchery at el Banco on the Pacific Coast of Guatemala.
Join this expedition to contribute to the conservation of endangered sea turtles in Guatemala, and develop a deeper appreciation for wildlife, and connect with your true nature.
Located in the community of el Banco on the Pacific Coast of Guatemala, Estación Biológica el Banco is a community-based biological research station.

A new macro photography centre has been developed in our reserve so that, thanks to our specialised guides, we can closely photograph the typical minor fauna of the area such as insects, reptiles and amphibians. Among the reptiles we could also photograph some vipers including the famous Barba Amarilla (Bothrops atrox) and the Manos de Piedra (Atropoides nummifer), but also tarantulas and scorpions.

An unusual photographic activity, based on seeking great felines, through Cloudy Forest in dry season. With excursions in the sites daily visited by pumas and jaguars, we will utilise camera-traps and infrared barriers to photograph these elusive animals in a tour dedicated to the exploration and research in the wildest Guatemala
