This reserve offers opportunities to photograph bird species
as Common Buzzard, Common Kingfisher, European
Bee-eater, Red-backed Shrike, Eurasian Jay, Long tailed
Tit, Great spotted Woodpecker, Bittern, Little Bittern,
Purple Heron, Little Crake, Water Rail, Great reed Warbler,
Marsh Warbler, Spotted Redshank, Black winged
Stilt, Little Egret, Night Heron, Eurasian Coot, Garganey,
Shoveler, Sacred Ibis and more.
In spring 2015 the Marsh Harrier decided to nest just
in front of the Bittern Hide, allowing amazing shots.
Among mammals the Red Squirrel is the star of the
drinking hide, often interacting with the Great-spotted
Woodpecker, as well as the Red Fox that comes to look
around. The Palude di San Genuario Reserve is also a
well known hotspot for dragonflies and damselflies, with
well over 30 species in the checklist.
Hides are available all year round, except for the Common
Buzzard Hide and the Floating Hide (Fontana
Gigante NR) that are open from october to march and
the Bee-eater Hide open from may to july. Spring is a
good time of the year for different species, while winter
is good especially for Common Buzzard and summer for waders.
